The Royals had Salvador Perez locked up on a cheap five-year, $7 million deal through 2017, but the team earlier today decided to reward the 2015 World Series MVP with a five-year $52.5 million extension that’ll run through the year 2021.

Perez is entering his 6th MLB season in 2016 as the Royals primary catcher. He batted .260/.280/.426 with 21 home runs and 70 runs batted in last season. He slashed .259/.328/.517 with 4 home runs and 8 runs batted in during the MLB playoffs in 58 at-bats.
