Kyle Lohse’s Rotation Spot in Jeopardy

USA Today Sports

2015 has not been a kind year to Brewers pitcher Kyle Lohse. Lohse came into the 2015 season as the Brewers ace, coming off a 2014 season where he won 13 games and had an earned run average of 3.54 with 141 strikeouts. With Yovani Gallardo out of the picture, Lohse was given the start on Opening Day for the Brewers, and it wasn’t pretty at all.

Lohse went 3 1/3 innings on Opening Day surrendering 10 hits and 8 runs – which were all earned in the Brewers 10-0 loss versus the Rockies. That start has set the tone for Lohse’s season, as he is 5-12 on the season with a 6.31 earned run average and 88 strikeouts. Those numbers and his latest starts could cost Lohse his rotation spot according to Brewers manager Craig Counsell.

Tyler Thornburg, who was called up recently because of the Jonathan Broxton trade seems like a likely candidate, while the Brewers could also turn to Michael Blazek, or others in the Minor Leagues like Tyler Cravy or Tyler Wagner.
