Bryce Harper says Mets Haven’t Faced Max Scherzer Once This Year

The Washington Nationals, and everyone linked to the Nationals organization can’t be happy right now. After an off-season in-which they brought in star pitcher Max Scherzer, the Nationals were favored by many to win the World Series. The emergence of Bryce Harper wasn’t expected, so that means the Nationals should be one of the best teams in the National League right? Nope.

The team is just a mere five games above .500, and the New York Mets came into tonight’s game versus the Nationals just one game back for the lead in the National League East. The Mets won 5-2, powered by home runs from Curtis Granderson, Daniel Murphy, and Lucas Duda, and 8 innings of great pitching from Noah Syndergaard. That made the Mets and Nationals tied for first in the National League East, but Harper isn’t too impressed with the fact they haven’t faced Max Scherzer yet, as he claimed that they haven’t faced their best pitcher.

I think Harper forgot that Scherzer’s first start was on Opening Day versus the Mets, a game the Mets won 3-1. Scherzer also pitched on May 1st against the Mets, losing 4-0. Perhaps Harper might’ve mixed that up, because here’s what he told to the Washington Post.

Harper is dead on right there. He will be a huge part of it as well, as Harper is having his best season in Major League Baseball so far, batting .331 with 29 home runs and 68 runs batted in on the year.
