VIDEO: Carlos Beltran Hits Go-Ahead Home Run in 8th Inning vs. Blue Jays

Yankees outfielder Carlos Beltran is nowhere near the player he once was heading into the 2015 season. At age 38, Beltran is still able to give the Yankees quality at-bats and big hits when his number is called. After his big hit tonight, in-which he came off the bench to do so, Beltran acknowledged that even in his twilight, he still has to be ready.

“You’ve got to be prepared, because you never know when the manager is going to use you in a game,” Beltran said.

In last night’s Yankees-Blue Jays game the Yankees found themselves trailing in the later stages of the game to the red-hot Blue Jays, who were winners of their last 11 games. After Chase Headley hit a ground rule double to center, scoring Mark Teixeira, the Blue Jays pulled David Price from the game and brought in Aaron Sanchez to face what was originally thought to be Yankees outfielder Chris Young, who was 0-3 with two strikeouts.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi decided to counter the Blue Jays move and bring Carlos Beltran in the game to pinch-hit for Young. Beltran then gave the Yankees this 405 foot blast, giving them the 4-3 lead.

Andrew Miller then proceeded to save his 26th game on the year, putting the Yankees back in 1st place in the American League, thus ending the Blue Jays 11-game win streak and putting them back in second by a half-game.

Beltran is now hitting .267 on the season with 11 home runs and 39 runs batted in.
