Mets Ace Matt Harvey: “I will pitch in the playoffs”

USA Today Sports

New York Mets starting pitcher Matt Harvey missed all of the 2014 season with Tommy John surgery, and 2015 was expected to be a year where the Mets weren’t contenders quite yet, and a year that Harvey wouldn’t have to worry about pitching too long coming off the major surgery.

Harvey and the Mets set his innings limit at 180 innings prior to the start of the 2015 season, and he is currently at 166.1 innings on the year on September 6th, a day where the Mets have a four game cushion over the Washington Nationals for first place in the National League East.

With the Mets in the heat of the pennant race and Harvey’s limit approaching, a lot of sudden drama popped up lately, with many questioning if Harvey will pitch again for the Mets this year. He took to The Player’s Tribune earlier today to clear up the confusion, as the article was entitled: “I Will Pitch in the Playoffs”

I am communicating with my agent, my doctor, Sandy and the entire Mets organization. I can assure everyone that we’re all on the same page.

Together, we are coming up with a plan to reach an innings limit during the season. It will be a compromise between the doctors and the Mets organization to get me, and the team, to where we need to be for our postseason run.

Harvey has been great for the Mets this year. He is 12-7 on the season with an earned run average of 2.60 and 158 strikeouts.
