Cubs Discussing Brett Gardner for Starlin Castro Deal With Yankees

USA Today Sports

Both Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner and Cubs shortstop Starlin Castro have popped up in trade rumors recently, and according to the New York Daily News, the Yankees and the Cubs may just do a trade swapping the two from each other.

From the Daily News’ article:

Brett Gardner continues to be a hot name on this year’s trade market.

The Yankees have discussed the outfielder with “many teams” according to a major-league executive, and while it’s no certainty that Gardner will be traded, the team appears willing to move him in the right scenario.

According to a second source, the Yankees and Cubs have discussed a swap involving Gardner and infielder Starlin Castro, who moved from shortstop to second base last season to make room for top prospect Addison Russell.

Castro would fill a need for the Yankees at second base, where they currently have a platoon of Dustin Ackley and Rob Refsnyder.

Gardner batted .259 with 16 home runs and 66 runs batted in during the 2015 season, while Starlin Castro batted .265 with 11 home runs and 59 runs batted in, playing 47 games at second base and 113 games at shortstop last season.
