Just like left-hander David Price elected to stay in the American League East and sign with the Boston Red Sox, right-hander Zack Greinke has decided to stay in the National League West and sign with the Arizona Diamondbacks on a 6-year $206 million deal.

Greinke’s average salary over the six years will be $34.3 million, the largest average salary in Major League history.

Greinke spent the 2015 season with the Los Angeles Dodgers, posting a win-loss record of 19-3, a 1.66 earned run average, and 200 strikeouts over 222.2 innings of work. He finished second in Cy Young voting for the National League to Cubs ace Jake Arrieta.

The Diamondbacks had the 16th best pitching staff in baseball last year, being about average at the pitching position, and the superstar Greinke can sure help make them an elite staff.
