OF Jason Heyward Agrees to $184 Million Contract With Cubs

USA Today Sports

Jason Heyward is staying in the National League Central, but not with the team that he was traded to last off-season.

Heyward has agreed to a eight-year $184 million deal with Chicago Cubs to be the team’s centerfielder, leaving the Cardinals. The signing of Heyward will give the Cubs a much improved defense, as he is a three-time Gold Glove Award winner in the outfield.

Heyward chose the Cubs over the Cardinals and the Washington Nationals. The 26-year-old Hayward batted .293 with 13 home runs and 60 runs batted in with St. Louis last year. With him still being very young, Hayward could surpass his best single-season home run mark with the Cubs. His high is 27 home runs which came in 2012 with the Atlanta Braves.
