Report: Pirates’ Francisco Cervelli Open to Contract Extension

USA Today Sports

Pittsburgh Pirates catcher Francisco Cervelli had a solid season for the Pirates in 2015, as the 29-year-old catcher, who will turn 30 in March, slashed .295/.370/.401 with 7 home runs and 43 runs batted in over the course of 130 games in 2015.

2015 was with out a doubt the best year of Cervelli’s career, largely in-part due to the fact he finally was able to get a shot, but Cervelli will head to free agency next Winter, unless the Pirates want to get an extension done with him.

Cervelli is of course open to getting the extension, per the Pittsburgh Tribune Review:

Pirates catcher Francisco Cervelli is open to remaining in Pittsburgh beyond 2016 and is waiting for the club to begin dialogue regarding a contract extension, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

Cervelli is also a quality option for the Pirates to keep around in large part because of his defense, posting a 99.7% field percentage in 2015.
