Miami Heat sophomore combo guard Tyler Johnson went through a number of shoulder injuries during the 2014-2015 season, and the Heat decided that following the NBA Summer League that Johnson will undergo surgery to repair his shoulder.

That didn’t go to plan at all.

Johnson suffered a broken jaw during the Summer League, causing him to get surgery right then to get to Heat training camp fully healthy, prolonging his surgery to the 2015-2016 off-season, at least that’s what the Heat were hoping would happen.

Johnson is a tough, physical guy who doesn’t shy away from any contact. He is the guy the Heat usually look to on the defensive side of the ball for taking a hard foul, or on the offensive side they look for him to hit down the jumpers the Heat sometimes struggle with.

Well, Johnson’s aggressiveness helped him avgeragrate the injury even more, and now, according to multiple sources, Johnson will undergo surgery some time this week on his left shoulder. It will be the rotator cuff surgery:

Johnson will likely be out two-plus months with the injury, which since it’s February 1st right now would put him at an April 1st return if it’s exactly two months. The likelihood is that Johnson’s regular season is over, but could help the Heat in the playoffs.

Rookie guard Josh Richardson will likely see some more playing time in the Heat’s rotation while veteran Beno Udrih sees most of the burn at being the backup to Goran Dragic.
Johnson is averaging 8.7 points, 2.2 assists, and 3 rebounds per game in 36 games for the Heat this season.
