Panthers Star Cam Newton Named 2016 NFL MVP

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton will be playing for the ultimate team accomplishment tomorrow, but earlier tonight he received the greatest accomplishment of his NFL career.

Newton was named 2016 NFL MVP earlier tonight, receiving 48 votes out of 50. Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer and Patriots quarterback Tom Brady received the others. Newton threw only one interception over the Panthers last eight games to go along with 26 total touchdowns.

“I would also like to thank (Panthers owner Jerry Richardson) for the opportunity to be the face of an organization when a lot of people didn’t approve of his decision,” Newton said in video message recorded before the NFL honors. “I would also like to thank every person that has doubted me because you made me better. Dab.”

Newton was also voted the Offensive Player of the Year in which he threw 35 passing touchdowns and ran for 10 touchdowns with 3,000-plus yards coming via the air.

Newton did this also without star wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin, who tore his ACL prior to the season. Many thought that Newton would struggle a lot, but he and the Panthers obviously have proven everyone wrong.

Newton became the first quarterback to win MVP without a Pro Bowl wide receiver since Brett Favre in 1997. Favre was also just inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Saturday night.

The Panthers will play the Broncos in Super Bowl 50 in the ultimate chance to cap off a great season. For Newton, he could win the regular season MVP, and the Super Bowl if he preforms like he did in the regular season.

We know you will be tuned into the major game tomorrow without a doubt anyway.
