Blue Jays Reach Two-Year Deal With AL MVP Josh Donaldson

It seemed ridiculous in most people’s eyes that the Blue Jays were really fighting with 2015 American League MVP Josh Donaldson over his 2016 salary, but the war appears to be over, as the two sides have agreed to a two-year. $29 million deal.

Donaldson posted this photo on Twitter, likely showing that he was happy about the deal:

This deal will cover the first two years of Donaldson’s arbitration years. Donaldson will be scheduled to head to arbitration three when he turns 32 in 2018. Even then, it’s likely Donaldson has a multi-year contract before then.

Donaldson, who batted .297/.371/.568 with a career high 41 home runs and 123 runs batted in for the Blue Jays in 158 games, was acquired by Toronto from the Oakland Athletics in November of 2014, helping the Blue Jays end their 21-year playoff drought.

Donaldson beat out Angels star Mike Trout by 81 points to win the MVP award.
