Report: Aroldis Chapman’s Poential Suspension Could Include Spring Training

The Cincinnati Reds first agreed to send closer Aroldis Chapman to the Los Angeles Dodgers earlier this off-season, but the deal fell apart due Chapman reportedly having a domestic violence incident involving his girlfriend.

Once the domestic violence incident was made public, it seemed very unlikely that the Reds would be able to trade Chapman, but New York Yankees general manager swung a deal for Chapman while not giving up guys like Aaron Judge, Jorge Mateo, Luis Severino, Gary Sanchez, and Greg Bird.

Cashman of course new that Chapman could face suspension for the incident, but the bullpen trio of Dellin Betances, Andrew Miller, and Chapman was too good not to make happen.

Chapman would of course be suspended for regular season games if he is indeed suspended, but we didn’t know that he could also miss spring training in a possible suspension.

PerĀ Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News

Assuming Chapman is disciplined by Manfred – as most in the game believe he will be – the possibilities include a ban from major-league camp, a ban from all team facilities including minor-league camp, or simply a suspension from regular-season games which would allow Chapman to remain with the team between now and Opening Day.

A decision is expected to be made soon on the flame throwing 27-year-old Chapman, who had a 1.63 earned run average with 116 strikeouts and 33 saves over 66.1 innings of work for the Reds in 2015.
