Report: Padres Will Attend Tim Linceum’s Showcase

Reuters

Tim Linceum wants to still pitch in Major League Baseball, and he wants to prove it to everyone.

Linceum is scheduled to have a showcase open to all MLB teams later this month with about 20 teams interested, per MLB insider Jon Heyman:

Linceum is coming off surgery to repair a torn labrum and an impingement in his left hip. He hasn’t been the same over the last four seasons, as the former 2009 NL Cy Young Award winner has a 4.68 earned run average over those four years.

But per Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune, another West Coast team in the San Diego Padres will attend Lincecum’s showcase later this month:

The Padres are among the many teams that have expressed interest in free-agent right-hander Tim Lincecum, a two-time Cy Young Award winner coming off hip surgery. And while almost all 30 clubs have contacted his agent, Lincecum should soon move closer to picking a destination.

Lincecum, who has no-hit the Padres twice, is expected to pitch in a showcase near the end of this month. The location will be in the Phoenix area, possibly either Scottsdale or Tempe. The Padres will be in attendance, though far from alone.

If the Padres do sign Linceum, it could prove to be a low-risk high reward thing for San Diego. He would likely be able to find a fit in a Padres starting rotation that has James Shields, Tyson Ross, and Andrew Cashner as the projected top three.
