Warriors Agree to Deal With Veteran Center Anderson Varejao

There were two teams rumored to be in the running for former long-time Cavaliers center Anderson Varejao; the Golden State Warriors and the San Antonio Spurs. Let’s just say the defending champs landed Varejao:

This is a very good signing for the Warriors for a number of reasons. The first reason being is that it never hurts adding a proven guy to your roster, and the second one is that the Warriors are dealing with injuries to Andrew Bogut and Festus Ezeli right now, so Varejao can be a guy you can plug in and get results out of instantly.

The deal will be for the veterans minimum and will be for the remainder of the season. Varejao was making to much money this season and wasn’t getting playing time behind Timofey Mozgov and Tristan Thompson in Cleveland, leading to the buyout option making the most sense.

The Warriors will waive forward Jason Thompson to open up a roster spot for Varejao.

Varejao is averaging 2.6 points and 2.9 rebounds per game this season.
