Heat Guard Beno Udrih (Foot) to Have Season-Ending Surgery

USA Today Sports

The injury bug just continues to bite the Heat.

The team confirmed late last night that point guard Beno Udrih will undergo surgery on his right foot that will keep him out for the remainder of the 2015-2016 season. Udrih becomes the 2nd Heat point guard to go on the out for season list joining second-year guard Tyler Johnson.

Udrih suffered the foot injury in the Heat’s 101-93 win over the Pacers on Monday during the 1st half of the game. He underwent x-rays during the game that turned out negative, but his MRI yesterday revealed that he will need surgery to heal the injury.

Udrih, who will turn 34 this July, was serving as a backup to Goran Dragic after the November 10th trade that brought him to Miami in-exchange for Mario Chalmers and James Ennis.

The left-handed point guard appeared in 36 games for Miami this season that included 5 starts. He finishes the 2015-2016 season averaging 4.4 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game for the Heat. Expect Josh Richardson to see his role in Miami’s offense increase.

The Heat are now down to 10 active players on the roster with Dwyane Wade‘s health being iffy and Chris Bosh out indefinitely. It’s very likely Miami signs a point guard to replace Udrih, but that likely won’t come until after March 6th as the Heat are trying to avoid paying the luxury tax.
