Report: Giants Still Interested in Free Agent Tim Lincecum

AP

According to Jon Heyman of MLB Network, the San Francisco Giants remain interested in former two-time National League Cy Young Award winner Tim Lincecum.

Lincecum, who spent his first nine seasons with the Giants, is currently a free agent after 20 teams were reportedly interested in him, including the Giants.

The 31-year-old Lincecum remains throwing in Arizona, and he also remains in no hurry to sign with a MLB team despite the fact that he hasn’t suffered any setbacks, also according to Heyman. Lincecum has not yet thrown for MLB teams.

It’s no secret that ‘The Freak’ as he is known by in San Fran has declined in his level of play we saw before 2012, but you can understand why the Giants would keep tabs on the right-handed pitcher returning from a hip injury.

The problem with a possible reunion between the Giants and Lincecum is this: Lincecum doesn’t want to come out of the bullpen, he wants to start. The Giants want Lincecum to come out of the bullpen, and not start.

Linceum appeared in 15 games for the Giants in 2015, posting a 7-4 win-loss record with a 4.13 earned run average. He struck out 60 batters over 76.1 innings of work in his best year earned run average wise since 2011.
