Cubs Active Javier Baez (Thumb) From 15-Day Disabled List

After four minor league rehab games at Triple-A Iowa, Javier Baez is ready to rejoin the Chicago Cubs coming off a thumb injury after batting .267/267/.467 with a home run and one run batted in in 15 plate appearances for Iowa.

With Baez now fully healthy and back on the Cubs’ 25-man roster, infielder Munenori Kawasaki will be headed to the Iowa Cubs. Baez had been on the disabled list with a thumb injury that happened during a slide in Spring Training.

While Baez won’t jump into the red hot Cubs lineup everyday, he is a great guy to have off your bench due to his raw power and his ability to play multiple positions. Baez had worked on outfielding this off-season, and with Kyle Schwarber out for the year, it’s likely Baez will get some playing time in left field.

The 23-year-old Baez is a career .201/.252./346 hitter who has 119 career strikeouts in 309 plate appearances. Baez was part of the reason the Cubs shipped Starlin Castro to the Yankees, so you can tell that the team is still confident in the young player.
