Deron Williams will reportedly opt-out of his contract with the Dallas Mavericks and become an unrestricted free agent this summer, according to ESPN.

Williams, who will turn 32 this off-season, will plan on seeking a multi-year contract that could end up being the final one of his NBA career. There is mutual interest between the Mavericks in Williams despite the opt-out.

“I would love to be back,” Williams said during exit interviews this week with media members. “This was a great year for me. My family is settled and happy here, so it’d definitely be great to be back.”

The Mavericks have one of the strongest tandems at point guard in the league that features Devin Harris, J.J. Barea, and Raymond Felton that Williams was able to perform strong in.

‘D-Will’ as some know him by, will need sports hernia surgery that caused him to miss the Mavericks five playoff games against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Williams averaged 14.1 points and 5.8 assists per game despite struggles with injuries again.
