Nationals to Promote SS Prospect Trea Turner

Trea Turner is getting the call to Major League Baseball, according to the Talk Nats blog on Twitter and MLB.com’s Bill Ladson.

With Ryan Zimmerman being placed on paternity leave, meaning he will only miss a few games, Turner’s call up the show might be short lived. Turner is the Nationals second best prospect behind Lucas Giolito and has batted ..310/.376/.472 with 3 home runs, 24 runs batted in, and 17 steals at Triple-A Syracuse in 2016.

The Nationals currently sit at 33-21 on the year, giving them a three game cushion on the second place New York Mets and a four game lead on the 3rd place Miami Marlins. The team doesn’t need a huge spark right, but Turner’s offensive output would help the Nationals out as infielders Danny Espinosa and Stephen Drew don’t provide much on offense.

Turner, 22, made his MLB debut last season in August for the Nationals, going 9-40 at the plate while hitting his first Major League home run. MLB.com has Turner listed as the 9th best prospect in baseball behind Lucas Giolito, Julio Urias, J.P. Crawford, Orlando Arcia, Yoan Moncada, Dansby Swanson, Joey Gallo, and Tyler Glasnow.
