Vikings Sign Safety Harrison Smith to Five-Year, $51M Extension

The Minnesota Vikings and Harrison Smith have reportedly agreed to a five-year, $51 million extension to keep the Pro Bowl safety in Minnesota until 2022.

Smith’s deal includes a $10 million signing bonus along with $28 million guaranteed out of the $51 million. This contract now makes him the NFL’s highest paid safety.

The 2012 first-round pick has emerged as one of the game’s best at the safety position, and with his entry level contract set to expire after the upcoming 2016 NFL season, it was a pretty good guess that the Vikings would look to extend Smith, and that’s what they ended up doing.

Smith recorded 66 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and two interceptions in 13 regular season games for the Vikings last season.
