Bulls Officially Sign SG Dwyane Wade to Two-Year, $47.5M Contract

USA Today Sports

It’s official: Dwyane Wade is leaving the Miami Heat for the Chicago Bulls on a two-year, $47.5 million contract that contains a player option for the second year of the deal.

“We are thrilled that Dwyane has decided to come to Chicago,” said Bulls General Manager Gar Forman. “It’s not often you get the opportunity to add a three-time champion and 12-time All Star to your roster. We are delighted he has decided to become a Bull, as he provides a great veteran perspective on the court and in the locker room. He will be a tremendous fit with our team.”

In 74 regular season games for Miami last season, Wade averaged 19 points, 4.6 assists, and 4.1 rebounds per game while shooting 45% from the field. Wade is projected to start at the shooting guard spot while Jimmy Butler moves over to small forward with Rajon Rondo at point guard.

Wade expressed his desire to stay with the Heat back in May, but due to conflict that was created between the Heat and Wade during contract negotiations, Wade is headed back to his hometown.

During the regular season, Wade knocked down just seven three-pointers in 44 attempts, giving him the worst three-point percentage mark in his career. In the playoffs, however, Wade shot above 50% on the three-ball, making 12 threes in 23 attempts.

2016-2017 will be the first time Wade will be the highest-paid player in his career, as he is scheduled to make $23.2 million next season.
