UPDATE: 2:11 AM Eastern Standard Time –

It’s official: The Milwaukee Brewers are calling up Orlando Arcia from Triple-A Colorado Springs. He will start at shortstop tomorrow, while Jonathan Villar moves over to third base:

The Milwaukee Brewers will reportedly promote top prospect Orlando Arcia from Triple-A Colorado Springs tomorrow to be the 25th-man on Milwaukee’s roster following the MLB trading deadline.

Oswaldo Arcia, who is the brother of Orlando Arcia, posted his congratulations to Orlando on making the Major Leagues via his official Instagram account:

Milwaukee currently has one roster spot open after trading Will Smith, Jonathan Lucroy, and Jeremy Jeffress today after only promoting David Goforth and Manny Pina.

Arcia, 21, is ranked as the Brewers top prospect ahead of Lewis Brinson, Corey Ray, Josh Hader, and Luis Ortiz. The highly regarded shortstop is ranked 13th overall in baseball, and is batting .267/.320/.403 with 8 homers, 53 RBI’s, and 15 stolen bases for Colorado Springs this year.

While Arcia hasn’t matched his slash line of .307/.347/.453 that he had last year for Double-A Biloxi, Arcia’s strikeout rate remains fairly low, and he is also drawing more walks in Triple-A than he did last year for the Biloxi Shuckers.

It should be interesting to see how much playing time Arcia receives with the Brewers, as Milwaukee already has Jonathan Villar at shortstop, who leads the Majors in steals this year with 39 to his credit this far.

Many expect that the Brewers will move Villar over to third base to allow Arcia to play shortstop full-time, and with Milwaukee’s current third baseman Hernan Perez hitting well, it’s likely the Brewers will move Perez, a position where he has played this season.

Many Brewers fans have been calling for the team and general manager David Stearns to promote Arcia from Triple-A for a long time, and it appears that they will finally get their wish.
