Francisco Rodriguez Moves to Fourth All-Time on Saves List

US Today Sports

Only three players have now saved more games than Detroit Tigers closer Francisco Rodriguez.

The 34-year-old Rodriguez saved his 425th game on Monday, moving him passed John Franco for 4th on MLB’s all-times saves list.

Rodriguez now only trails Mariano Rivera (652), Trevor Hoffman (601), and Lee Smith (487) on the saves list. “K-Rod” is also one of just six players in Major League history to have 400 saves, which Franco and Billy Wagner being the others.

Detroit will more than likely pick up the $6 million team option in his contract for the 2017 season, meaning he will be with the Tigers for at least one more year after the Milwaukee Brewers traded Rodriguez to Detroit for Many Pina and Javier Betancourt.

In 2016, Rodriguez is 39-for-43 when converting saves in his first season with the Tigers. He has a 2.81 earned run average and 44 strikeouts over 51.1 innings of work this season.
