Justise Winslow Working With Shooting Specalist to Improve Jump Shot

USA Today Sports

Miami Heat small forward Justise Winslow has been working with a shooting specialist to improve his jump shot this summer, reports Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.

The Heat are also reportedly very encouraged by the progress Winslow has made this summer, as his stroke, release, and rhythm all look better, according to an unidentified Heat staff member.

“You will see a major difference; he can be a special player,” the unidentified person said.

Winslow during his rookie season was a streaky shooter at best. He shot just 42% from the field while shooting 27% on threes, and 68% from the free throw line, Per Basketball Reference, Winslow shot 263 jump shots last year, making only 31% of them.

The coach has made some mechanical adjustments to Winslow’s shot, leaving Winslow ‘pretty confident” going into training camp which starts at the end of Septemeber for the Heat.

The 20-year-old Winslow will be Miami’s starting small forward next year, as Pat Riley expressed confidence in his abilities early in the off-season. He is apart of Miami’s young core that features Hassan Whiteside, Tyler Johnson, Josh Richardson, and others.

Throughout his rookie season, Winslow established himself as a great defender that was able to help make things tough on players such as LeBron James, Paul George, James Harden, and others, while improving his driving and finishing each and every game. Winslow will be a restricted free agent in 2019.

Winslow averaged 6.4 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game in 2015-2016.
