Report: Saints QB Drew Brees Seeking Four-year, $100 Million Extension

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees has restarted contract talks with the team, and is seeking a four-year, $100 million extension from the team, according to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports.

Jason Cole of Bleacher Report a couple of hours ago also reported that Brees’ agent Tom Condon asked for $85 million guaranteed, with the fact that Brees believes he will be able to play five more seasons in the National Football League:

Brees is currently entering the final year of a five-year, $100 million extension signed back in 2012 that included $40 million guaranteed with him scheduled to have a base salary of $19,750,000. If the Saints and Brees are un-able to reach common ground by Sunday, the odds of Brees leaving New Orleans after this year would increase.

New Orleans will of course have the option to place the franchise tag on Brees if a deal isn’t reach this spring, but that would cost the team around $43 million – a very hefty price. Brees’ asking price is a lot for a 37-year-old quarterback, but he also has shown no signs of slowing down just yet.

Brees reached the 4,800 yard passing mark for the 5th straight time his career last season, while also recording his 7th straight 30 touchdown season.

During Brees’ tenure in New Orleans, the Saints have went 94-64 and won one Super Bowl. The signal caller has made 8 pro bowls and thrown 348 touchdowns for New Orleans in ten seasons after leaving San Diego for them in 2006.
