Houston Texans star pass rusher J.J. Watt has re-injured his surgically repaired back which could cause him to miss the remainder of the season, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network:

Rapoport is also reporting that the Texans won’t discuss Watt’s injury today, but will discuss it tomorrow and likely place him on injured reserve with the hope that he will be able to return this season.

The early indications are that Watt suffered the same herniated disc injury that required surgery in July in the Texans’ shutout loss to the Patriots last Thursday night. One source says he doubts Watt will return to the Texans this season.

Houston is currently leading the AFC South, but without the three-time defensive player of the year on defense and four-time all-pro, there will be some regression for sure.

In addition to Watt being out, the Texans are also missing former Pro Bowler Brian Cushing at inside linebacker due to a knee injury.

Watt will miss a game for the first time in his NFL career due to this injury. He has totaled 76 sacks in just 83 career games and 379 total tackles.
