Nationals C Wilson Ramos Suffers Torn ACL, Out For The Season

AP

Washington Nationals catcher Wilson Ramos will miss the remainder of the 2016 season and all of the playoffs due to a torn right ACL, Nationals manager Dusty Baker told the local media on Tuesday afternoon.

This injury is without a doubt a very significant blow to the Nationals, who will face the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Division Series likely without star pitcher Stephen Strasburg, while Bryce Harper and Daniel Murphy are both dealing with injuries right now.

A date has yet to be scheduled for Ramos to get surgery, but Ramos will meet with doctors to figure it out in due time according to the team.

“We’ll really miss his offense,” Baker said. “I told him: ‘Hey man, you and Daniel Murphy, particularly you two guys carried us to this point. Now it’s up to some of the other guys to take us to the next level and then the next level after that.”

Ramos suffered the injury on Monday versus the Arizona Diamondbacks when he landed awkwardly on his knee trying to catch a throw.

Many expect that Ramos, who is a free agent after this season, will command a big day for a catcher of his caliber. The 29-year-old Ramos had a career year on offense in 2016, as he batted .307/.354/.496 with 22 homers and 80 runs batted in.
