Rudy Gobert Wants to Stay With the Jazz Long-Term

USA Today Sports

Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert will be a very rich man soon, and whether or not the Jazz are the team that makes him rich remains to be seen.

Gobert is entering the final year of his rookie-scale contract that was signed after he was drafted by Utah in 2013. He will head to restricted free agency this summer if the Jazz and Gobert aren’t able to reach common ground on a contract before the start of the 2016-2017 season.

The 24-year-old Gobert is hoping that in 2017-2018, he is wearing the Jazz uniform again, and for many years to come:

“Everyone knows I want to be here,” Gobert told Aaron Falk of the Salt Lake Tribune. “Whether I sign this year or next, I’m focused on the season,” Gobert also said. “It’s not going to change anything.”

Things are looking up for the Jazz this season, as many are projecting them as a top five team in the Western Conference. Utah added a nice bench piece in Joe Johnson this off-season to help back-up Rodney Hood and Gordon Hayward, while also getting former lottery pick Dante Exum back.

Last season, Gobert averaged 9.1 points, 11 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 2.2 blocks per game in 61 regular season games.
