76ers F Ben Simmons (Foot) Expected to Miss Three Months

AP

Philadelphia 76ers forward Ben Simmons is expected to miss three months after suffering a broken bone in his right foot, ESPN’s Jeff Goodman reports.

Simmons is set to undergo surgery some time next week per Marc Stein of ESPN who also reports that the injury is not related to Simmons’ weight gain over the summer.

A MRI revealed the fracture in Simmons’ foot on Friday after it was reported that he rolled his ankle after landing on the foot of un-drafted rookie Shawn Long during the 76ers’ official team scrimmage earlier that day.

This injury to Simmons is all too common for 76ers fans and the front office. Nerlens Noel missed a full season due to a knee injury, Joel Embiid has missed two full seasons due to a knee injury, and Jahlil Okafor was unable to finish last season due to a knee injury.

Philadelphia used the number one overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft to select Simmons out of LSU after he averaged 19.2 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game. Simmons appeared in six Summer League games for the 76ers, and averaged 10.8 points, 7.7 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game.
