Indians’ Trevor Bauer to Start Game One of the ALDS

USA Today Sports

Cleveland Indians right-hander Trevor Bauer will be the team’s starter for game one of the American League Division Series against the Boston Red Sox in Boston on Thursday, according to Paul Hoynes of

After surrendering two runs and three hits in the 6th inning of the Indians’ 6-3 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Saturday, Indians manager Terry Francona pulled him from the game, and told Bauer that he would be starting the Indians first playoff game since 2013.

“I told him why I was taking him out — because he was going to start Game 1,” Francona said. “But he was kind of in the middle of beating up the dugout. So much for that feel-good moment.”

Bauer also spoke on being named the starter for the game:

“I have a lot of confidence in my teammates and hopefully they have confidence in me,” Bauer said. “It should be fun. Like I said before, they tell me when to pitch and I go out there and pitch. Game 1, Game 2, Game 3, or whatever, they’re all important.”

Corey Kluber will start game two on Friday, with the starters for games three and four to be determined. Carlos Carrasco is out for the season with a finger injury, and Danny Salazar still has not recovered from a forearm strain. It’s like that Bauer may have to pitch game four on short rest.

The 25-year-old Bauer went 12-8 with a 4.26 earned run average and 168 strikeouts over 190 innings pitched this season for the Indians.
