Duke star freshman Harry Giles underwent left knee arthroscopy surgery earlier today, and is expected to miss six weeks.

The estimated recovery time of six weeks would cut into the start of Duke’s season.

Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski said the following in a statement released to the public that discusses the procedure that Giles had done on his left knee:

“We’re very pleased with the outcome of today’s procedure, Krzyzewski said. “This is the right step for Harry at the moment as it will help him be 100 percent going forward. Harry has done a tremendous job in rehabilitation over the last year and I’m sure he’ll continue to do the same after this procedure.”

Gilies’ first knee surgery happened right before the start of his sophomore year of high school where he tore both his ACL and MCL in his left knee. The second knee surgery happened last November after he tore his right ACL in the first game of his senior year.

Even with Giles’ injury, Duke is still a very talented team heading into the 2016-2017 college basketball season. Grayson Allen is still at school Jayson Tatum is now in the mix, and the Blue Devils have another projected lottery pick in big man Marques Bolden who can help fill the void if Giles misses the start the season.

Giles was ranked ESPN’s top high school player in the 2016 College Basketball recruiting class.
