Red Sox 2B Dustin Pedroia (Knee) Undergoes Surgery

Sports Illustrated

Boston Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia underwent successful left knee arthroscopy surgery yesterday in Massachusetts and is expected to be ready for spring training, per an official team release:

Boston Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia underwent successful left knee arthroscopy yesterday. A partial medial meniscectomy and chondroplasty was performed by Head Team Orthopedist Dr. Peter Asnis at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Pedroia is expected to make a full recovery in time for Spring Training 2017.

This is the 3rd off-season surgery for Pedroia in four years, as he underwent thumb surgery in 2013, and wrist surgery in 2014.

Pedroia sustained the injury while playing against the Blue Jays in September after he twisted his knee will making a throw according to Red Sox manager John Farrell. He only ended up missing two regular season games due to the knee injury.

The 33-year-old Pedroia batted .318/.376/.449 with 15 homers and 74 RBIs in 154 regular season games for Boston in 2016, the most games he has played in a year since he played 160 out of 162 in 2013.
