Report: Patriots Looking to Extend TE Martellus Bennett

Greg M. Cooper/USA Today Sports

Martellus Bennett has been sensational for the New England Patriots this season.

That’s why the Patriots will make him a priority this off-season, and look to give him a long-term contract extension, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network:

Bennett is set to become an unrestricted free agent following the conclusion of the 2016 season, and is likely to have more suitors than just the Patriots following a resurgent season in his first year in New England.

The Patriots and head coach Bill Belichick do love their two tight end sets as well noted, and having Bennett alongside star tight end Rob Gronkowski for the foreseeable future puts them in an elite place.

The 29-year-old Bennett, who will turn 30 right around the time free agency begins, has hauled in 38 passes this season for 504 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns.
