Sammy Watkins (Foot) Cleared to Practice on Limited Basis

Kevin Hoffman/USA Today Sports

Buffalo Bills wide receiver Sammy Watkins has been cleared to return to Bills practice on a limited basis, per Bills general manager Doug Whaley.

The Bills placed Watkins on injured reserve back on September 30 after he was still experiencing discomfort in his left foot from off-season foot surgery. Watkins didn’t need to undergo surgery again, as doctors just determined that he needed more rest and and rehab.

While Watkins has yet to be added to the Bills’ active roster, there is still a chance that he could be activated in time for the Bills match-up versus the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. Wide receiver Robert Woods hasn’t practiced yet this week with a knee injury.

“There’s always pressure on us athletes, but not to go out on the field and not feel good. I’m not going to do that,” Watkins said. “But if I feel good, of course, I’m going to go out there and play and I’m going to do my best. But it’s really about being healthy. If I’m healthy enough to play and they think I’m healthy, then I’m going to go out there. I’m not going to go out there unhealthy.”

Watkins says he went through about “20-something plays” at Bills practice on Wednesday, and then was asked if he would be able to play if the Bills had a Thanksgiving game tomorrow:

“That’s a good question,” Watkins said, per The Buffalo News. “Probably not.”

The 23-year-old Watkins was Buffalo’s leading receiver last season, racking up 1,047 yards on 60 catches and 9 touchdowns.
