Browns’ Robert Griffin III Will Start Week 14 vs. Bengals

Robert Griffin III has officially been named the Cleveland Browns starting quarterback for their Week 14 match-up versus the Cincinnati Bengals.

Cleveland, who is coming off a bye week, is still looking for their first win of the 2016 season. They currently sit at 0-12 on the season, but Griffin III is back to hopefully provide some stability at quarterback.

“It’s just an opportunity to play in the NFL with a group of guys who don’t deserve to be 0-12,” Griffin said Monday after Browns practice. “I just want to come in, give the team as much of a spark as I possibly can, have fun, and hopefully we can go 4-0.”

Griffin III suffered a broken bone in his non-throwing shoulder Week 1 against the Philadelphia Eagles, and since then, the Browns have rotated between quarterbacks Josh McCown, Cody Kessler, and Kevin Hogan. Terrelle Pryor has even thrown the pigskin this season.

Browns head coach Hue Jackson told reporters earlier today that Kessler will serve as Griffin III’s primary back-up, while McCown and Hogan will likely both be on the inactive list on Sunday.

The Browns activated Griffin III from injured reserve on November 23, and then prompted to waive quarterback Joe Callahan five days later. After this season, Griffin III will have one more year left on his contract he signed last off-season.

The 26-year-old Griffin has a career passer rating of 89.7. He has thrown for 8,827 yards, and racked up 40 total touchdown passes in 38 career games.
