Robert Alford Agrees to Four-Year Extension With Falcons

Atlanta Falcons cornerback Robert Alford will be able to call Atlanta his NFL home until 2021.

The 28-year-old cornerback agreed to a four-year, $38 million extension that includes $21 million guaranteed with the Falcons earlier today, the team announced in a statement.

“It feels good,” Alford said when asked about the extension. “It feels good to be in the same place. I love it here. I love the coaching staff. I love Coach [Dan] Quinn. Just for them to give me the extension, I’m very blessed. That’s all I can say.”

Alford was selected by the Falcons with the 63rd overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft. 2016 was the final season on his rookie scale contract he signed shortly after being drafted.

This is the 2nd contract extension given out by the Falcons this season. They locked up tackle Ryan Schraeder for five years, and cornerback Desmond Trufant could be rewarded with an extension next year, as he is entering the final year of his deal in 2017.

Alford has 47 total tackles on the year to go with 12 pass deflections and two interceptions.
