Sean Kilpatrick Credits Nets GM Sean Marks for Emergence

Noah K. Murray/USA TODAY Sports

It looks like another rough season is underway in Brooklyn, as the Nets have won just 6 of their first 21 games. Even with the losses that have been endured so far, there have been plenty of bright spots for the Nets.

One of those bright spots is guard Sean Kilpatrick, who signed a three-year, $2.5 million contract with the Nets in March after two ten-day contracts.

Kilpatrick is averaging 16.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game this season, while posting shooting percentages of 43% from the field, 34% from three-point range, and 83% from the free throw line. Kilpatrick has given Nets general manager Sean Marks his fair share of credit for these averages:

“The confidence (Sean Marks) had in me really helped,” Kilpatrick told Chris Mannix of The Vertical. “As soon as I came to the team, he told me, flat out, just to play my game, just to continue to do the things I’d been doing the last couple of months in the D-League. I think when you have that type of confidence in a player, coming from your GM, it’s a big boost, at least it was to me.”

It’s no secret that Brooklyn doesn’t have a lot of draft picks going forward, so they will need players like Kilpatrick to emerge to help turn around the franchise quicker. The Nets are hoping Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, Caris LeVert, Isaiah Whitehead, and others can all be part of that process.
