Report: Dolphins Planning for Jarvis Landry Contract Extension

The Miami Dolphins are setting themselves up financial wise to give a contract extension to wide receiver Jarvis Landry in the near future, reports Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.

Landry is currently making $735,901 this season in year three of his four-year rookie scale contract he signed back with the Dolphins in June 2014. He will make $893,852 in 2017, per Spotrac.com.

Miami will not be giving Landry an in-season extension, as Jackson also reports that the Dolphins will wait for the conclusion of the 2016 season before attending to their players long-term status. The Dolphins’ cap space can inflate all the way to at least $36 million this spring.

The 24-year-old Landry has produced 75 catches, 820 receiving yards, and 2 touchdown catches through 12 games this season, leaving him on pace for back-to-back 1,000 yard seasons after a career 2015 season.

Kenny Stills,  who has been used frequently in Adam Gase’s offense this season, will be an unrestricted free agent this off-season, while DeVante Parker is still under team control until 2019.

All three receivers are apart of the Dolphins young wide receiving core, so it seems likely that all three will be around next season and beyond.
