Norte Dame Fighting Irish quarterback DeShone Kizer is going pro.

The 20-year-old redshirt sophomore quarterback Kizer is forgoing his final two year of edibility to enter the draft, where Bleacher Report’s Matt Miller has him currently projected as a top-ten draft selection.

Kizer became the Fighting Irish’s starting quarterback in the third game of the 2015 season after Malik Zaire suffered a broken ankle against the Virginia Cavaliers the prior week. He never looked back due to the immediate success he gave to the program.

“DeShone is an extremely gifted quarterback that was faced with a difficult decision,” Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly said Monday in a release. “He could return as a senior captain at Notre Dame — a place that he loves, and with a program that respects him immensely. Or, he could begin the next chapter in his life and accept the opportunity that likely awaits in the NFL.

“While he chose the latter, the type of leadership DeShone displayed this past season will benefit our program moving forward. He’ll certainly be missed on and off the field, but we’re very happy for him and his family. DeShone will always represent this University with the utmost professionalism and class.”

Kizer posted a 145.6 quarterback rating in 2016, while throwing for 2,925 yards and racking up 36 total touchdowns.
