It looks like point guard Chris Paul will have an increased role with the Clippers for the next couple of weeks.

Star power forward Blake Griffin will undergo a minor right knee surgery sometime this week, and is expected to return to the team at some point in January, league sources told Shams Charania of The Vertical.

Charania reports that the procedure is considered a ‘clean up.’ While playing college basketball at the University of Oklahoma, Griffin underwent surgery on his right knee during his Freshman season, and he also underwent surgery on a torn left knee cap in 2010, his rookie season with the Clippers.

In 2015-2016, Griffin only played in 35 games due to a hand injury suffered with a member of the Clippers training staff in January. He returned for the playoffs in April, before he would suffer a quad injury against the Portland Trail Blazers in the Western Conference Quarterfinals that ended his season for good.

Clippers head coach Doc Rivers will have to rely on Brandon Bass, Luc Richard Mbah a Moute, Wesley Johnson, and Marreese Speights in the absence of Griffin, while also featuring more small ball lineups.

Griffin is averaging 21.0 points, 8.9 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game this season.
