Following his two sack performance against the San Diego Chargers on Sunday, the NFL has named Oakland Raiders linebacker Bruce Irvin the AFC’s Defensive Player of the week.

In-addition to the two sacks, Irvin had 6 total tackles in the game, 2 tackles for loss, 1 forced fumble on Chargers running back Kenneth Farrow, and 3 quarterback hits.

San Diego was attempting to tie or win the game in the 4th quarter when Irvin sacked Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers and then pressured him on the game’s decisive play that forced Rivers into an interception.

Irvin joins fellow linebacker Khalil Mack as the two Raiders players to be named AFC Defensive Player of the Week this year, in the first season the Raiders will qualify for the playoffs since 2002.

The 29-year-old Irvin now has 51 total tackles, 5 forced fumbles, 7 sacks, and 1 pass deflection this season.
