The Dallas Mavericks have waived point guard Pierre Jackson with the hopes of re-sign him on January 14, the team announced today.

Eddie Sefko of the Dallas Morning News first reported that that the Mavericks will attempt to re-sign Jackson to a ten-day contract after he plays with the Texas Legends on the NBA Development League for three games.

Dallas originally signed Jackson on December 27 to two-year, non-guaranteed contract that was said to be worth over $1.2 million. After scoring 7 points in his NBA debut that same night against the Houston Rockets, Jackson went on to average 3.0 points, and 1.8 assists in four games prior to being waived.

Signing Jackson to a ten-day contract will allow Dallas to keep Jackson on their roster for a cheaper price, and will also protect him from letting another NBA team signing him away from the Development League, just like the two-year contract did.

When Jackson likely re-joins the Mavericks, he will then re-join a crowded Mavericks backcourt at point guard that features Deron Williams, Seth Curry, J.J. Barea, and Devin Harris.

In the Development League this season, Jackson is averaging 29.1 points, 6.0 assists, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.9 steals per game.
