Badgers Offensive Lineman Ryan Ramczyk Entering 2017 NFL Draft

Jeff Hanisch/USA TODAY Sports

The Wisconsin Badgers will now have two players entering the 2017 NFL Draft early, as offensive lineman Ryan Ramczyk announced his decision to enter the draft on Twitter earlier today.

Ramczyk will forgo his senior season of college eligibility at the University of Wisconsin-Madison after transforming himself into an All-American after transferring to Wisconsin from a Division III school.

Linebacker T.J. Watt, the brother of former Wisconsin star and current NFL superstar J.J. Watt was the other Badgers player to declare for the 2017 NFL Draft, as he made his decision one week ago.

Badgers head coach Paul Chryst named Ramczyk the team’s starting left tackle for the 2016 season, after he sat out the 2015 season due to the NCAA’s transfer rules after transferring to Wisconsin from Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

Three days after Wisconsin knocked off Western Michigan in the Cotton Bowl, Ramczyk underwent surgery to repair damage in his right hip. The surgery is not expected to negatively impact his draft stock, as Ramczyk will still be able attend the NFL Draft Combine and partake in interviews and measurements.

The Badgers finished the season ranked 9th in the Associated Press’ Top 25 Poll, giving the team their highest end-of-season rank since the 2010 season, when they finished 7th in the poll.

Bleacher Report’s Matt Miller has Ramczyk ranked as the top offensive lineman in the draft, and his most recent mock draft has him going number seven overall to the San Diego Chargers, where he would block for former Badgers running back Melvin Gordon.
