Paul Stastny Headed to Injured Reserve With Lower-Body Injury

The St. Louis Blues have placed forward Paul Stastny on injured reserve with a lower-body injury, per an official announcement from the team today.

St. Louis says Stastny suffered the injury on February 9th during the Blues’ 2-1 win overtime win over the Toronto Maple Leafs. Placing Stastny on injured reserve does free up a roster spot for the Blues, however, and they used the opening to recall Wade Megan from the AHL.

Blues head coach Mike Yeo says the decision to place Stastny on injured reserve was made once it was determined by team doctors that he wouldn’t be able to play versus the Detroit Red Wings or Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday and Thursday. Per NHL rules, Stastny must be on IR for seven days before the team is allowed to activate him.

Since Stastny was already injured on Thursday last week, he could be activated for the Blues’ game on Thursday versus Vancouver, but that appears to already be ruled out. Yeo is leaving the door open for Stastny to return on Saturday when the Blues travel to Buffalo to play the Sabers.

“I’m still going to call him day to day,” Yeo said, per the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. “But he won’t be in for these two games. I’m certainly not going to rule up Saturday as an option.”

The 31-year-old Stastny has 35 points on the year to go along with 20 assists and 15 goals in 54 regular season games, leaving him on pace to finish with 52 points, 30 assists, and 22 goals.
