Report: Broncos Have Expressed Interest in Re-Signing Kayvon Webster

Chris Humphreys/USA TODAY Sports

It looks like the Denver Broncos want to keep cornerback Kayvon Webster alongside Aqib Talib, Chris Harris Jr., and Bradley Roby for the long haul.

Per Mike Klis of 9 News, league sources say that Denver has already expressed interest in re-signing Webster, but there are several hurdles the Broncos will have to jump over if they want to retain Webster while also agreeing to a reasonable salary on the contract.

Webster reportedly wants a bigger role along with more money, so a team that can offer Webster a starting role and on top of it more money than the Broncos already has the advantage over John Elway and company. Webster is designated to a special teams role due to the influx of talent in the secondary the Broncos have.

Broncos defensive coordinator Wade Phillips also didn’t use Webster much in his defense in 2016 either, as he only averaged 4.5 defensive snaps per game, as noted by Klis. The reason the Broncos want to keep Webster around has a lot to do with depth reasons, but Webster has also established himself as one of the best special teams players in the league.

It’s also likely that Webster and the Broncos won’t agree to terms before NFL free agency opens on March 9 so that Webster and his agency are able to gain a better understanding of the market before making a final decision that will likely be a multi-year deal wherever he lands.

The 26-year-old Webster has 83 total tackles in his NFL career that also includes 14 pass deflections and 1 interception.
