Wizards Reach Verbal Agreement With Recently Waived Brandon Jennings

The Washington Wizards and Brandon Jennings have come to a verbal agreement on a contract for the rest of the season, according to Chris Hayes of ESPN.

Jennings was waived by the Knicks on Monday to clear way for the signing of rookie guard Chasson Randle, and the Wizards and the Charlotte Hornets were the two most aggressive teams in the Jennings sweepstakes that were reported. The Hornets backed off at the end due to having guard Briante Weber on a ten-day contract already.

With Jennings headed to Washington, he will provide some much needed minutes behind star guard John Wall. While Trey Burke‘s shooting percentages have improved in his first year with the Wizards, his work behind Wall still isn’t cutting it.

The Wizards’ deal with Jennings will become official after 5 PM EST time on Wednesday when the guard clears waivers. The same goes for guard Jose Calderon, who is expected to sign on with the Golden State Warriors.

Washington will have to waive a player to open up a roster spot for Jennings, and Sheldon McClellan (now Sheldon Mac) or Danuel House Jr. will likely be waived to open the roster spot. House seems like the most likely to be cut, as he has the less NBA experience between the two.

For the season, Jennings is averaging 8.6 points, 4.9 assists, and 2.6 rebounds per game.
