Sharpshooter Marco Belinelli Commits to Signing With 76ers

Some much needed shooting help is on the way for the Philadelphia 76ers.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski was the first to report that shooting guard Marco Belinelli had agreed to join the 76ers for the remainder of the 2017-2018 season following his buyout from the Atlanta Hawks. Belinelli confirmed his intentions to sign with Philadelphia with the following Tweet:

Wojnarowski states that the 76ers were one of several playoff teams to offer a deal to Belinelli, but what set the 76ers apart from every other team was the promise of a significant role coming off the 76ers bench. From the outside looking in, it’s very easy to see where Belinelli would fit in as well, as Belinelli could potentially become the first guard off the bench for head coach Brett Brown.

Philadelphia currently posses two of the best three-point shooters in the NBA right now in J.J. Redick and Robert Covington, but there have been several games this season where the 76ers have struggled immensely to hit the three-ball. Shooting the three consistently is often the issue for the 76ers bench, and Belinelli is the right man to help fix those shooting woes.

The 31-year-old Belinelli won’t officially become a free agent till Monday afternoon after he clears waivers, but he could be ready to play that night against the New York Knicks if everything goes smoothly in the process of signing him. If Belinelli doesn’t debut against the Knicks on Monday, he’ll be ready to go without a doubt Wednesday against the Miami Heat.

Belinelli is averaging 11.4 points, 2 assists, and 1.9 rebounds per game this season, making his three-pointers at a 37% clip.
