2nd Half Surge by #6 Wisconsin Leads Them to Win 71-51

The Wisconsin Badgers are moving on to the Big Ten Championship game! The Badgers beat the Purdue Boilermakers today by a score of 71-51. The Badgers were down 35-30 at the end of the first half, but held Purdue to 16 points in the second half while they scored 41 to lead the 20 point win.

Bronson Koenig’s career high in points with 19 lead the way for the Badgers scoring wise. Nigel Hayes stepped up huge for the Badgers, scoring 15 points, grabbing 6 rebounds, and dishing out 5 assists. The dynamic duo of Frank Kaminsky and Sam Dekker was once again effective, as Dekker had 15 points with 8 rebounds on 5-9 shooting. Frank Kaminsky had 12 points with 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 blocks in the win as well. Players who hardly play for Wisconsin were able to get in the game. Those players included, Jordan Smith, Aaron Moesch, Matt Ferris, and Riley Dearring.

For the Boilermakers, A.J. Hammons had a big first half, but couldn’t get anything going in the 2nd half much like the entire team. Hammons finished with 10 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 blocks. Kendall Stephens was also another player who was unable to get anything going, as he had 9 points in the 1st half but couldn’t capitalize in the 2nd.

The Badgers, (30-3), will advance to the Big Ten Championship game and take on the winner of Michigan State-Maryland. The Boilermakers, (21-12), will await their seeding in one of the NCAA’s tournament’s as they were a bubble team heading into the game.
