Alex Ovechkin Becomes 43rd Player in NHL History to Reach 500 Goal Plateau

Washington Capitals left wing Alex Ovechkin has just moved himself into a pretty exclusive NHL club.

The 30-year-old Ovechkin became the 43rd player in NHL history to score 500 regular season goals in the second period of the Capitals game versus the Senators. The goal was Ovechkin’s 25th on the season, coming via the Power Play, assisted by Jason Chimera and Andre Burakovsky.

Since Ovechkin’s goal, the Capitals have opened up a 6-1 lead. It’s very likely that the Capitals are well on their way to their 32nd win on the year.

Ovechkin also became the 1st Russian born player to record 500 NHL goals.

UPDATE: Ovechkin has just scored his 501st goal. The Capitals now lead 7-1.
